Demographics of the target audience - P3(a-d)


In this section I would like to talk about those points:


  • Gender 
  • Age
  • Lyfestile 
  • Spending power

Gender

The target audience for this film is mass market and family viewing. Teenagers of both genders enjoy this films as there are romantic themes and light heated  style and there is a love story that attracts girls and colourful battles that will attract boys as well. As we all know girls like love stories and the theme of relationship but boys would prefer battles, fights, action and a hero, which they would want to look at ( for example some Marvels most famous films like Spiderman, Batman, Greelight and others ). In Shrek all the three parts  tells the story of Shrek and Fiona (who are the main characters), Donkey ( who is a really important character), Puss in the boots ( an amazing character which appears just in the second film). All those characters create an amazing atmosphere where every child would want to be - Shrek is a hero, so boys would want to be same brave, Fiona - is an amazing looking princess which every girl would love to be, loots of fights and love stories. The main feature that attracts young girls is that the story finishes with happy ending and Shrek with Fiona stay together. 






As to the boys, every film is full of fights, action and an amasing hero, who they can look at


Age


The target audience has a mass - market appeal because the movie is targeted at children 7 to 12, teenagers 12 to 18 and adults 18 to 60. As it is involves a huge turget audience, it is the biggest market in media. The movie seems to be for children more than for other age groups but adults and teenagers may find it interesting to watch too as there are huge amount of different scenes segmented on the specific audience. This was the main idea of DreamWorks Animation’s marketing team - is to make this film interesting for every age group. This will increase the numbers of viewers which will boots the sales of tickets and may increase the demand for this particular film and they have succeeded. Now there are millions of children, teenagers and adults which love this movie and the whole world know the “ Shrek “ . Any child goes to the cinema with an adult and for adults not to feel lost and boring creators of the movie put some "adult" jokes to make it attractive for elder audience. 


Lifestyle 

There are different kind of people and different looks how and what to do in their free time. There are a huge number of people which would like to spent time at home and play some games, some would want to go for a walk or have a dinner with their friends, but there is another group of people would like to go and have a fantastic time in the cinema immersed into a great fantasy story like Shrek. This film provides everything what the viewer wants : An amazing story, colourful images, good filming length ( 93 minutes ) which is amount to spent a good evening and relax, action which crabs attention and a continue for a film. Those components are meeting every customer need.

Spending power. 

Every film is aimed on the people, which average income and spending facility allows then to buy a ticket in the cinema which is around £7-14 in UK or people which can afford to buy a DVD player and  film on the disk which will cost around £15- 25 in UK's stores or £20 in Apple store which will allow them to watch with film at home with their friends and family at all the time. As you can see that in is more profitable for DreamWorks pictures to sell DVDs, because they cost more and therefore, DreamWorks Animation's marketing team have created different types of amazing coloured DVD boxes which will attract every addult and child to buy them.
